Berlin: Bayern Munich, champions of German football for the past ten seasons, announced their contract with Dutch international defender Daley Blind on Thursday.
The former Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United player’s contract will continue until the end of the current season, with the possibility of an extension.
Blind, 32, mutually terminated his contract with Dutch giants Ajax last December, six months before it expired, making him a free player.
Blind confirmed he was happy to join the German champions before the end of the current season, adding: “I’m really looking forward to playing here. We’re looking forward to the most important part of the season, when it comes to titles, and a club how Bayern Munich can win all the titles.”
“The desire to win trophies here at the club was a big factor in my decision. I hope I can offer my experience to help the team.”
And sporting director, Bosnian player, Hasan Salihamidzic, welcomed the newcomer in a statement on the Bavarian club’s official website: “We are happy that Dali has joined our team. Dali is a versatile defender, capable of playing to the left or in the middle”.
“He has great international experience and leadership qualities. I’m sure he will help us.”
Blind played 99 international matches for his country and played in each of the five matches ‘Orange’ played in the World Cup in Qatar, and scored in the last price round during their 3 1 win over the United States, before his career ended in the quarterfinals with penalties at the hands of Argentina, which he then crowned with the title.
Blind, who joined the Ajax youth system before making 333 first-team appearances, won the Eredivisie title seven times and the domestic cup twice.
He also spent four years at Manchester United where he won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Bayern are looking for an additional option in defence, especially after French left-back Lucas Hernandez tore his cruciate ligament during his country’s participation in the World Cup.
Blind is due to travel to Doha on Friday to join the Bavarian side, who are conducting a training camp during the Bundesliga winter break.
