Before noon on Thursday, an emergency trade union meeting was held at the Pharmacists’ Union in Beirut at the invitation of the Professional Unions, the General Labor Union, the Education Associations and the Teachers’ Union.
The meeting discussed the next and urgent steps to put pressure on the election of a president for the republic and on the revival of constitutional institutions.
After the meeting, the head of the Pharmacists’ Union, Joe Salloum, read a statement in which he said: “Never in its modern or ancient history has Lebanon witnessed such extreme poverty and the complete collapse fundamental sectors of the country, including health, education, economic and banking institutions, as well as the chaos and complete dissolution of its points of reference”. treating cancer patients is like an impossible undertaking, and humiliation becomes the queuing in front of banks looking for the crumbs of an entitlement they conspire against in recovery plans at the expense of deposits and savers, teachers and workers, both in the public and private sectors, are unable to get to their schools and places of work, so that what they charge is not enough for the price of transportation and other manifestations of chaos, tragedy and total collapse.
Salloum specified that “all of this was done with the indifference of those concerned and faced with unprecedented lightness the pain of citizens and the tampering with constitutional rights, first of all the election of a president for the country”, considering that “it is it is a fundamental right, which is a mandatory entrance to the restoration of constitutional life and an inevitable step for any rescue plan that will give something back to the Lebanese citizen. .”
He added, “The union forces, the general union and the educational ties have called for this inclusive constituent meeting at the headquarters of the Lebanese Pharmacists Union, to raise their voices and ask those concerned to elect a president without delay for the republic or procrastination, and to start the rescue process immediately”, underlining that “this appeal constitutes the No. 1 declaration of forces”. Together, we will not accept the deaths of our people without lifting a finger.
Salloum stressed that “all the steps and actions guaranteed by the constitution will be available in case those concerned do not quickly fulfill their constitutional and patriotic duties towards the citizens, the country and history”.
