Andrey Kanchelskis spoke about relations with the Ukrainians.
– Were there any difficulties after February 24? Many former players have left sponsors, advertising contracts.
– I had difficulties with bank transfers. And in terms of publicity, I haven’t partnered with anyone before either.
– Globally, did these events not affect your life?
“Globally, they have affected everyone. We are all human, we all experience. My mother still lives in Ukraine. So she to some extent she affected everyone. What should I do? We have to move forward.
– How often are you in contact with your mother now?
We call each other, of course. We keep in touch once every two weeks. Everything is fine.
– Is it difficult to maintain relations with people in Ukraine now?
– We have a good relationship with my mother. Naturally, I worry about her health, and hers – about mine and my older sister.
I don’t like talking about it with my friends. As soon as it starts, I try to get away from the topic. Because this is not right. It’s not for us to judge. It’s not my fault and it’s not their fault.
If a person begins to aggressively attack you, then, of course, the topic should be closed. Neither you nor anyone else can prove anything here.
– Have you stopped communicating with any of your friends and acquaintances in Ukraine on this basis?
– With someone not the same communication as before. What can I do? If a person thinks like this, I can’t get inside his brain.
There are friends with whom I played football, I kept in touch, but now the relationship is not the same, tense. You can hear it in your intonations, in your voice. There’s nothing you can do – it just happened.
– You were born and started your career in Ukraine, then went there regularly to your mother. Have you ever encountered nationalism there? Your personal experience.
– Never met. In Kirovograd, most of the population speaks Russian. It’s not a problem.
– Do you think that one day this wound between the two countries will heal?
– One day it will heal, but when – no one knows. I can’t say either – I’m not a prophet, – said the ex-footballer of the Russian national team and Manchester United.
