HP introduces 45″ superwide with 5120×1440 pixels – Computers – News

At CES, HP will introduce the E45c G5, the first 45″ superwide monitor with 5120×1440 pixels. The curved screen has the same surface area as two 24″ screens side by side. HP also showed off another ten new G5 series screens.

The E45c G5 is interesting in that it offers a new combination of resolution and screen diagonal. Previously there were monitors with 5120×1440 pixels, but they had a diagonal of 49″, which made them the same size as two 27″ screens side by side. HP says they’ve opted for a 45″ (actually 44.5″) screen size for people who find a 49″ screen a bit too big on their desk.

The E45c G5’s VA panel has a 1500R curvature, a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1, and a maximum brightness of 400cd/m², which can be adjusted via the built-in light sensor. The screen displays 99 percent of the sRGB color space. The maximum refresh rate is 165Hz, with FreeSync available up to 48Hz. In addition to HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort, there are two USB-C ports, both with 65W power delivery.

The built-in kvm function allows you to automatically share the built-in ethernet port and peripherals connected to the 4-port USB hub between the two computers. The image of both systems can be displayed side by side on the screen. HP has also integrated a feature called “Virtual dual display”, where the screen can appear to a system as two separate displays. For example, you might be running a “full screen” video conferencing application on one half of the display, but doing something else at the same time.

At CES, HP showed off significantly more displays than its E-series G5, which comprises a total of eleven monitors. The smallest has a diagonal of 22 inches and Full HD resolution. One of the new screens is a touchscreen. In addition to the E45c G5, four other models feature USB-C docking with 65W power delivery, albeit with the other screens having only one port. All monitors in the series are made with 90 percent recycled or renewable materials, according to HP.

The G5 E-series displays are expected to be available in the US this month. When they will be released here and how much they will cost is still unknown.
