Features of the development plan of the zoo, especially the increase of green areas and commercial areas

Giza Zoo Established in 1891, it is the largest zoo in Egypt and the Middle East, and the first and oldest zoo in Africa. It was called “the crown jewel of zoos in Africa”, and its area is about 80 acres. It sits on the west bank of the River Nile and has streams, caves, waterfalls and wooden bridges. And lakes for birds on display. It also includes a museum which was built in 1906 and contains rare collections of stuffed animals, birds and reptiles. The estimated number of visitors is around two million a year.

132 years after the establishment of the park, the government begins to take the necessary measures for development. Check out some of the features of that development in the following report:

1- A contract will be concluded between the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Authority for Veterinary Services and the National Military Production Authority, to develop the Orman Zoo and Zoo in Giza Governorate, as part of the state plan for the development of large parks in collaboration with the private sector.

2- The master plan for the development of the zoo includes the increase of its efficiency, the preservation of its archaeological and historical buildings and the conservation of these archaeological buildings.

3- Increase of green areas and commercial areas, as well as design of recreational areas to be created within the park.

4- There are proposals related to the operation and management of the park, with its connection to a park Orman As it was originally intended to maximize the benefits of creating a single garden rich in plant and animal diversity.

5- The private sector will be used to participate in the implementation of the development, management and operation of the park.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has led the implementation of the project to develop the Giza Zoo in a way that is comparable to its international counterparts and enhances its archaeological and historical value as one of the oldest zoos in the world, in the scope of re-presenting it on the basis of international environmental standards, and serve as an outlet to welcome visiting citizens from all over the Republic..

This occurred during the meeting of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi with Dr Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, Dr Mohamed Moait, Minister of Finance, Mr Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Major General Mohamed Salah El-Din, Minister of State for Military Production, and Major General Ahmed Al-Azzazi, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
