Macron will discuss the revision of the health system in a hospital in the Ile-de-France region on Friday

“The President of the Republic will go to the South Francilien Hospital Center (CHSF)”, in Essonne, “to present his wishes to the actors of health, hospitals and liberals”, announced the Elysée on Wednesday. This hospital was the victim of a large cyber attack in August. The Head of State “will return to the actions taken, the challenges to be faced as well as the work to be done to rebuild our health system”, specified the presidency.

Announcements expected

Accompanied by the Minister of Health François Braun, he will go in particular to meet the teams of the pediatric department, “in a context of strong tensions on pediatric emergencies”, he added. According to an adviser to the executive, President Macron, who is organizing a greeting ceremony dedicated to health workers at the Elysée for the first time in six years, will make announcements on this occasion.

His decisions are expected by a sector that is experiencing a period of extreme tension, with overwhelmed emergencies and a woeful lack of health workers in hospitals and cities, against the backdrop of the winter triple epidemic of Covid-19, flu and bronchiolitis.

“Emmanuel Macron had recognized in the spring that it would be necessary to “go much further, faster and stronger”, in particular by strengthening “the prevention policy”, “the simplification of the hospital and its governance” and the improvement “of the emergency room access

The government has promised a “refoundation” of the health system, after the billions of euros paid since 2020 as part of the Ségur de la santé to strengthen the attractiveness of the sector.

A sign of these tensions, liberal doctors have been called by a collective to continue this week a strike that began the day after Christmas, to obtain a reassessment of the consultation, with a national demonstration scheduled for Thursday in Paris. FO-Santé, the second largest hospital public service union, has also called an indefinite strike since January 10 to protest against the government’s “inertia”.

Two “major projects” of the second five-year period, with the school

The entourage of the Head of State believes that Emmanuel Macron had revealed his “philosophy” in 2018, when he launched his reform to strengthen the offer of long-term care, in particular by removing the numerus clausus in medicine studies. “Part of the way has been made”, but these measures take years to bear fruit, time to train new generations of carers, argues the same source.
