Japanese stock indexes closed today, Wednesday, at their lowest levels in nearly ten months in the first trading session of 2023, following the impact of last night’s drop on Wall Street, while the yen’s rise against the dollar also influenced sentiment.
According to the “Kyodo” news agency, the Nikkei index fell by 1.45% to 25,716.86 points, the lowest closing level since March 15.
The broader Topix index lost 1.25% to close at 1868.15 points.
The Nikkei fell 0.99% to 25,834.93 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while the broader Topix index fell 0.66% to 1,879.19 points.
