A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after being caught with a loaded gun at his high school in Queens, police said.
Just after 12:30 p.m., school security officers observed the student drop his weapon as he walked up a flight of stairs at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, according to police and sources.
Security officers grabbed the teenager and retrieved the loaded .22-caliber handgun, police and sources said.
It was unclear what the student intended to do with the loaded gun, police said. Nobody was hurt.
All students remained in the school building while police investigated and “there was no disruption to the normal school day,” principal Megan Colby said in a letter to parents following the incident.
“This afternoon a student was discovered carrying a weapon in his backpack. The student, along with the book bag, was taken to a secure office and the New York Police Department was notified,” Colby said.
“No students or staff were injured in this incident.”
