The initiator of the exchange was the Russian side, but negotiations on the exchange were held in Turkey, with the participation of the Turkish secret services, the newspaper reports.
On the appointed day, two planes landed at Ankara airport: one from Russia with the captured “Azovians”, and the other from Ukraine with the arrested Medvedchuk.
The parties’ representatives then went to the other party’s plane to confirm the identity of the persons to be exchanged and to check their health.
After carrying out this procedure, the exchange went smoothly, reports “Hurriyet”.
It is known that the Azov commanders will remain in Turkey until the end of the war.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assumed their security guarantees.
This was one of the conditions of the exchange from the Russian side, the newspaper said.
Nothing is known about the further fate of Medvedchuk.
