Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) allegedly signed a presidential decree (Keppres) requiring the naturalization of prospective footballers Indonesian national team Shayne Pattynama.
This was revealed by Menpora Zainudin Amali on Tuesday (3/1). Menpora said the Viking FK player will soon be sworn in to become a citizen of Indonesia (WNI).
“The Presidential Decree on the granting of Indonesian Citizenship to Shayne Elian Jay Pattynama was signed by Mr. President Joko Widodo. Also, the person concerned will be sworn in at the Kemenkumham Province DKI Jakarta Regional Office,” Amali said.
Earlier, Shayne Pattynama’s naturalization application was approved by the Indonesian parliament at a November 17 plenary meeting. Shayne became the third player to have his naturalization application approved after Sandy Walsh and Jordi Amat.
Menpora hope that Shayne’s presence can boost the Indonesian national team’s strength as they face a number of major tournaments, especially the 2023 Asian Cup.
“We hope this process may soon include the transition from the European Football Federation to the Asian Football Federation. With the presence of Shayne Pattynama, hopefully we can add strength to the Indonesian national team in matches that the national team faces in the future,” said Amali .
Shayne Pattynama is a player born in Lelystad, Netherlands on 11 August 1998. The player who can play as left back and midfielder has Indonesian blood from his father who came from Maluku.
Shayne currently plays in the Norwegian league with Viking FK. The 24-year-old previously played in the Netherlands with Jong Utrecht and Telstar.
Shayne Pattynama is one of Shin Tae Yong’s three recommendations for naturalized Indonesian national team players after Sandy Walsh and Jordi Amat.
