Techno live – When the sun is out, the sky turns colour blue. But is that the true color of the sky? Or just the one color of the sky?
The answer is a bit complicated but it involves the nature of light, atoms and molecules as well as some of the unique parts of atmosphere The Earth is also a big laser.
The blue light we see is a ray of light Sun which produces a broad spectrum of light, which is seen as white, but includes all colors of the rainbow.
When sunlight passes through the air, atoms and molecules in the atmosphere, it scatters blue light in all directions, much more than red light. This is called Rayleigh scattering and produces a white sun blue sky on a sunny day.
As the sun sets we can see this effect occur because the rays have to pass through more air. When the Sun is near the horizon, almost all of the blue light is scattered (or absorbed by the dust), so we end up with a red Sun with a blue cast around it.
But if all we see is diffuse sunlight, what is the true color of the sky? We may see the answer in the evening.

The night sky looks dark, but not completely black from the stars. But the night sky itself glows. This is not light pollution, but a naturally luminous atmosphere.
