As reported by Mundo Deportivo, signing a new central defender is no longer a priority for Barça. Background: Trained left-back Marcos Alonso convinced Xavi Hernandez in the centre.
Since Jordi Alba and Alex Balde have high qualities on the left back, the Barça coach seems to be planning Alonso permanently as a centre-back. Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde are also available for headquarters.
If Barcelona and Marcos Alonso decide to extend his contract, which expires at the end of June next year, there will be no more room for Inigo Martínez at the Camp Nou.
The 31-year-old can leave Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer at the end of the season, his transfer sheet expires on 30 June. The Basques are said to want to extend the veteran’s contract, but according to media reports, at reduced wages.
