A sequence like a magical magic lantern

Years ago, during one of her travels, the writer Annet Schaap saw a lighthouse with a house next to it. “Not very special,” she said in an interview with The standard, “but I had a vague thought: someday I will write a book about this.” It took years to get to that point – Schaap was an illustrator and had never written before – but then Light once there, the book about the girl in the lighthouse without matches proved to be a direct hit. In the meantime it has been translated into more than 25 languages, and now there is also a beautiful TV series.
