GeForce RTX 4070 Ti “super cheap”? RTX 3090 Ti performance at a fraction of the price

It is common for a new generation of hardware to take the price of the previous lines and increase the performance. For the new GeForce RTX 4000 cards, the price has gone up a lot, but it’s still very interesting to see how significantly the price-performance ratio has improved in some specific cases. The comparison with GeForce RTX 4070Ti, which should be presented in a few days. According to published tests, it should provide performance roughly on the level of the previous flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

For instance. in the OctaneBench 2020.1 benchmark, the RTX 3090 Ti achieved an average performance of 688.17 (median 688.6), while the new RTX 4070 Ti should even reach 725.3. This is about 5% more. In the 3DMark benchmark, the previous generation already leads, but not by much. In the TimeSpy Extreme 4K test, the previous generation had 11312 points, while the novelty, two classes lower, is only 0.5% less powerful with its 11258 points. The FireStrike Ultra 4K test therefore provides 13987 points against 13698, a difference of 2.1%. In principle, both cards are comparable.

When the RTX 3090 Ti went on sale about three-quarters of a year ago, it was priced at $1,999. Comparing this to the likely price of the RTX 4070 Ti, which it will be most likely for $799, it would be the same performance in a few months at 40% of the original price. Current RTX 3090 Ti prices are a bit lower (usually around $1,500), but the cheapest offering in the US is even down to just $1,099. Even so, in the case of the RTX 4070 Ti, that would be a 73% drop in its price.
