ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The planned military barracks near Zeewolde are to provide space for around 7,000 soldiers. There are also around 1300 training places, King’s Commissioner Verbeek said in his New Year’s speech. According to him, the jobs are created by a reorganization within the Ministry of Defence.
The construction of the new barracks is not final yet, but last month State Secretary Van der Maat indicated that a location near the Nijkerkerbrug near Zeewolde was most suitable. The cabinet is likely to take the plunge within six months.
The super barracks
It was already clear that this was a large barracks. Van der Maat has previously spoken of a “super barracks” into which various parts of the Defense come together. At that time he did not mention any number of soldiers.
The Army says it needs an area of 500 hectares for buildings and a training area. The Horsterwold near Zeewolde is best suited for this, according to an inventory of possible locations last month.
Several farms are now on the intended site for which an alternative site needs to be found, he reports Flevoland broadcasting.
