Fred White was an early member of the band, joining in 1974 when he was 19 years old. He was in the band with his brothers, bassist Verdine and singer Maurice White.
The drummer passed away on Sunday.
Brother and band member Verdine White opens up on the loss of his brother in an Instagram post:
“She’s going to our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven, and now she’s playing with the angels!” she wrote in the post.
The former singer, Maurice White, died in 2016.
Fred White played drums on eight of the band’s studio albums, as well as some of their biggest hits like “September” and “Boogie Wonderland”.
According to Verdine White, the cause of death is unknown.
