Since 2008, Grand Montauban has been committed to a process of sustainable development and the fight against the effects of global warming. Through its Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAET) drawn up in 2018, the agglomeration community is implementing concrete actions to move towards greater energy sobriety, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the development of renewable energies in the area.
In this context, Grand Montauban and its 11 municipalities support the Voltalis approach, which consists in equipping 13,300 electrically heated homes free of charge with a connected device to control and reduce their electricity consumption. An ideal complement to the initiatives that the area has already undertaken in terms of sobriety. The Municipality of Montauban is also involved in the process by equipping a first municipal building, the Drawing School.
Heat better and reduce electricity consumption, without depriving yourself
The device Voltalis it comes in the form of small connected boxes, discreetly installed on each radiator in the house by an authorized, usually local, technician. It is compatible with all electric radiator models and with all energy suppliers.
A real connected thermostat, intelligently manages consumption and saves energy. Equipped families benefit from a personal online space (on a computer or smartphone) which offers the possibility of programming and controlling their heating room by room for greater comfort and savings.
They can also accurately monitor their electricity consumption to better understand it and ultimately reduce their bills by acting on the most energy-intensive items.
The Voltalis solution therefore allows savings of up to 15% in annual electricity consumption, improving comfort and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 70%.
Energy savings that contribute to the safety of the electricity grid
In the extremely tense energy environment and power generation shortages we are experiencing, the risk of load outages and power outages this winter is very high. Thanks to the intelligent management technology of energy consumption invented by Voltalis, equipped houses contribute to the security of energy supply for everyone.
In fact, during peak consumption or reductions in the production of renewable energy, the grid risks an imbalance and therefore resorts to auxiliary power plants that use coal, fuel oil or highly polluting and expensive gas. At these key moments, Voltalis can reduce the electricity consumption of devices connected throughout France via its box for a few minutes, while preserving the comfort of the occupants. The grid is thus relieved, which avoids the use of polluting power plants and reduces the risk of cuts.
A totally free device for all electrically heated homes
All inhabitants heated by electricity, whether they are owners or tenants, can benefit from this energy saving system. To benefit as many people as possible, Voltalis mobilizes consultants who will meet the population to inform them of the process and answer all questions.
The implementation of this national utility system began the week of September 26, 2022 by the municipality of Lamothe-Capdeville, Villemade, Albefeuille-Lagarde, Montbeton and will rapidly be extended to other municipalities in the area. This operation constitutes a significant investment for Voltalis, which bears all the costs of supplying equipment and systems.
About Voltalis
Renewable electricity is the future of energy. Its intermittency calls for everyone to consume more intelligently. Since 2006 Voltalis has been the European leader in the intelligent management of residential and tertiary electricity consumption. Our innovative technology already allows more than 150,000 European families to better control their consumption and satisfies the growing need for flexibility in the electricity system, an essential element of the ecological transition. Developed in France and implemented notably with the support of local authorities and key housing players, our solution provides concrete answers to the challenges of people’s purchasing power, reduction of CO2 emissions and the security of electricity grids . With more than 15 years of experience, we continue to innovate to prepare the management of new uses, such as electric vehicle charging, storage or self-consumption. Benefiting from the support and synergies created with its majority shareholder Meridiam, a company with a mission committed to the financing, development and long-term management of sustainable infrastructures, Voltalis is now accelerating the implementation of its solutions at scale, in France as well as internationally.
Greater Montauban and sustainable development
Greater Montauban conducts a voluntary and committed policy in terms of sustainable development: “Zero Waste Zero Waste” territory and “Energy Positive Green Growth Territory” with SIRTOMAD, label “Territory Committed to Ecological Transition” (formerly Cit’ energy) , Ambitious Territorial Climate-Air-Energy Plan, redevelopment and upgrading of the urban heating network connected to the waste incinerator, refurbishment of this equipment to become an energy recovery unit producing electricity as well as heat.
