Berlin, Munich Not only do many citizens have to pay much more for heating and electricity, but compulsory health insurance will also be more expensive this year. Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) announced in the summer that the contributions must reach a new record.
The average additional contribution should increase by 0.3 percentage points – and thus to a total of 16.2 percent of the gross salary. The reason is the dire financial situation of the cash registers, which Lauterbach wants to stabilize with higher contributions. Workers and employers share the burden.
After health insurers decided to increase their individual contributions at the end of the year, it is now clear that the jump will be slightly smaller than feared. The largest funds, in particular, only increase the additional contribution by 0.2 percentage points, and some even go without it.
