The images are spectacular. In a plume of fire, the New Shepard capsule escapes from its also flaming launcher before landing in the desert, slowed by its parachutes, while the rest of the rocket crashes.

The incident occurred on September 12 in Van Horn, Texas. For the first time in 23 flights, Blue Origin has experienced a resounding failure of its space taxi aimed at wealthy tourists. The capsule was empty but the activation of the emergency ejection system and the soft landing suggest that any crew would have survived.
