ANNOUNCEMENTS•
In Vietnam, rescuers are looking for a 10-year-old boy who fell down a concrete foundation shaft on Saturday. They try, among other things, with the help of a camera to find out how deep the boy has fallen. The pole goes 35 meters into the ground and is only 25 centimeters in diameter.
The accident occurred on New Year’s Eve at a construction site in the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. The boy was looking for the old iron with his friends when he fell down the well for unknown reasons.
The provincial government has deployed hundreds of officers for the rescue operation. According to the Reuters news agency, they heard the boy calling for help shortly after the fall, but now he remains silent in the hollow of the concrete post.
Oxygen
Rescuers pumped oxygen into the well in hopes of keeping him alive. They also tried to loosen the soil around the post. Attempts to later lift the mound with cranes and excavators, however, have so far failed.
Local media write that there are few other ways to save the boy. For example, a rope cannot be thrown in because the space is too narrow for the child to tie it around his waist.
