He then managed to accidentally find the entrance to a huge underground city called Derinkuyu.

It turned out that the underground fortress was abandoned for many centuries, but later it was found that it is 18 floors deep and can accommodate up to 20 thousand inhabitants. There were temples, schools and even stalls.

The archaeologist from Turkey’s Department of Culture said that Derinkuyu was carved out of volcanic rock. The city has become a kind of artificial anthill. Experts suggest that it was created by the Phrygians between the 7th and 8th centuries BC. This is an ancient Indo-European culture.

Stone heads of ancient deities found during excavations in Turkey

Recently, archaeologists dug in the ancient city of Aizanoy, the remains of which are found in Turkey. They found an almost complete statue of a man and stone heads of Eros, Dionysus, Hercules and some other characters from ancient mythology.

Archaeologists noted that two years ago a headless statue of Hercules was already found here. Therefore, they assumed that these were fragments of the same statue, but the finds did not match. According to the researchers, the age of the excavated artifacts is approximately 1800-2000.
