Lula da Silva became president of Brazil

Rio de Janeiro: Lula da Silva sworn in as president of Brazil. This is Lula’s third term as president. Addressing the nation, Lula, the leader of the Left Workers’ Party, said he would fight for the country’s poor and for the environment.

He said he is taking on the protection of the Amazon rainforest. Lula added that her eyes fill up when she sees people begging near vehicles parked on the street. Upon taking office, the president also announced a 35-member cabinet. 11 of them are women.

Lula came to power after defeating incumbent Bolsonaro’s right-wing party in November’s election. He is the first president of Brazil to serve three terms. Tens of thousands of people came to the capital Brasilia to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
