On New Year’s Day in Berlin, 38 attacks on firefighters were recorded, DPA reported, citing data released on the morning of January 1.
A first report shows that a total of 15 firefighters were injured, and one of them was taken to hospital, BTA points out.
On New Year’s Eve, crates of beer and fire extinguishers were thrown at fire trucks and firefighters were pelted with fireworks.
Firefighters said they were well prepared for this year’s celebrations but were still surprised by the “number and intensity of attacks on our emergency services”.
For the New Year’s Eve, the service engaged around 1,470 firefighters and 395 rescue vehicles.
