Thousands of people began to gather this Sunday in the political heart of Brasilia for the inauguration as Brazilian president of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvawho assumes for the third time the power he has already exercised for two consecutive periods, between 2003 and 2010.

According to forecasts, the official ceremony will begin at 2.30 pm local time, when Lula will arrive at one end of the Esplanade of the Ministries, the avenue where all the public power buildings are located and where the proceedings will be concentrated. about 300,000 people are expected.

The brand new president will take a ride in a vehicle, which if weather conditions permit it will be a Rolls Royce “Silver Wraith” model without a convertible top of the Brazilian presidency, in which he will be accompanied by his wife, Rosangela “Janja” da Silva. However, it is likely that she will parade in front of the crowd in a closed car, as so far the forecast for the time of the event calls for heavy rains, typical of this period in Brasilia.

The tour will end at the seat of Parliament, where Lula will take the oath and deliver his first speech as president in front of all the national political power and delegations from fifty countrieswhich will include around twenty heads of state and government. Among these, the king of Spain and the presidents of Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, as well as those of Germany and Portugal.

After that speech he will go to the nearby Palazzo Planalto, seat of the Presidency, where he will enter through a ramp that leads from the street to the first floor of the building.

Then he will speak to the crowd gathered on the Esplanade of the Ministries from the “parlatorio”, a sort of large pulpit outside the Planalto Palace, and he will sign the terms of investiture of the 37 ministers that his government will have.

Before that second speech, he will receive the presidential sash in the “parliament”, which will not be given to him by the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaroas required by the protocol, because the leader of the right, who has not accepted his electoral defeat, went to the United States last Friday.

According to sources close to the new government, even if it hasn’t been confirmed yet, the idea is that Lula will receive the sash from a small group of people, who would symbolize on the spot “the diversity of democratic Brazil”.

The official ceremonies will end with a reception that Lula will offer to the foreign delegations at Palazzo Itamaraty, headquarters of the Farnesina, located about five hundred meters from the seat of the Government.

In conjunction with the reception, the so-called Festival of the Future will begin, a concert that will bring together around fifty popular artists and whose curtain should fall in the late morning of Monday.
