Jakarta, CNNI Indonesia —
Vietnam have the upper hand in the race for tickets to the semi-final AFF Cup 2022. They failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the AFF Cup when they lost 0-7 to Myanmar, and that too is yet to see the duel between Malaysia and Singapore.
Vietnam will face Myanmar in the final match while Malaysia will clash with Singapore in Kuala Lumpur. Vietnam are currently leading the Group B standings by seven points, ahead on goal difference over Singapore (+9 to +3).
While Malaysia is in third position with a value of six points. Malaysia’s goal difference is +3.
These conditions make Vietnam the favorites to qualify for the semi-finals, while Singapore and Malaysia will battle it out to fight for one more remaining ticket.
However, there was a time when Singapore and Malaysia could both qualify for the semi-finals of the 2022 AFF Cup.
Here are the moments and situations that put Vietnam out of action:
1. Vietnam lost 0-7, Malaysia against Singapore drew
If Vietnam lose 0-7 against Myanmar and Malaysia against Singapore end in a draw in one more game, this will allow Singapore and Malaysia to qualify as Group B representatives.
This condition makes Singapore the group winners with eight points. Malaysia is second with a collection of seven points, as is Vietnam.
Malaysia (+3) is entitled to qualify with a goal difference advantage over Vietnam (+2).
2. Vietnam lost 0-8, Singapore lost by one goal difference from Malaysia
When Vietnam lost 0-8 to Myanmar and Singapore lost by a single goal difference to Malaysia, Vietnam were eliminated.
This condition made Malaysia the group winners with nine points collected. Singapore and Vietnam then fought for status runner up.
Singapore (+2) will have a goal difference advantage over Vietnam (+1).
