After yesterday’s nice fifth place in the sprint Frida Karlsson exited 19 seconds behind yesterday’s winner Nadina Fähndrich in today’s 10km classic style.
Before the fourth and final lap, it was Karlsson, Tiril Udnes Weng, Lotta Udnes Weng, Anne Kjersti Kalvå and Kerttu Niskanen who settled for the podium.
Karlsson was close for a long time, but was eventually overtaken by Tiril Udnes Weng, who won, and Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen.
Norwegian Weng, who is one of the contenders for overall victory in the Tour de Ski, thus achieved his first World Cup victory.
– I thought I wouldn’t go with Frida if she went too fast, because it will be hard with the height if you get tired here, says the Norwegian in the Viaplay broadcast.
“Delighted with the start of the tour”
Despite the third place, Frida Karlsson was satisfied after the race.
– It’s good. I actually had as a tactic not to waste energy and lay on my back for the first few laps. But then I felt there were people coming from behind, and I thought it was silly to let them in too easily, so I got up anyway and had a good pace, he tells SVT Sport.
– I’m very happy with the start of the tour, I’m completely on top and full of expectations for the next few days.
How did you deal with the altitude here in Val Müstair?
– It’s a little scary. And I lived low, unlike many others here during Christmas. It’s kind of scary and it can go both ways.
Maja Dahlqvist, who finished second, finished in 20th place 1 minute 35 seconds behind.
Cross-country skier Ida Dahl made a good effort and moved up from 28th to 14th place.
