A worker at Alabama Montgomery Regional Airport died Saturday in a ramp crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said Saturday.
Montgomery Regional Airport said in a statement that an American Airlines/Piedmont Airlines ground crew “involved a fatality” around 3 PM.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic loss of an AA/Piedmont Airlines crew member,” said airport CEO Wade A. Davis. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
American Airlines said in a statement that it was “devastated by the incident involving a crew member,” adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and local crew members. We are focused on the make sure everyone involved gets the support they need.” in this difficult time”.
All inbound and outbound flights were grounded for more than four hours on Saturday afternoon, but the airport returned to normal operations at 8.30pm.
The victim’s name was not released and the circumstances of the death were not immediately released. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
The flight, operated by regional carrier Envoy Air, was scheduled to depart Dallas-Fort Worth for Montgomery on Saturday afternoon, according to flight tracking site FlightAware.com.
