Pope Benedict XVI is dead The Pope emeritus passed away on New Year’s morning at the age of 95. Benedict XVI is also mourned in his native Bavaria.
Joseph Ratzinger was born in 1927 in Marktl am Inn in the Altötting district. Ratzinger was also closely associated with Regensburg. There he had taught as a professor at the university. His brother Georg was cathedral music director and conductor of the Regensburg cathedral orchestra. Ratzinger lived in Pentling during his stay in Regensburg.
