It is also interesting that the goalkeeper himself noticed the problem with an overly positive attitude and turned to an expert about it. “Petr was great when he called me when he came to Carolina,” recalls the 59-year-old coach, who also previously served as a head coach in extraleague hockey and was also a national team assistant.
“He says: look, I’m about to sign a new contract and I want to work on it, but I have a completely atypical problem, compared to what you’re solving, because somehow I perceive from the guys what you’re doing… I’m too optimistic about these things, even a little arrogant”, describes the communication with Mrázek .
Jelínek also gives an example of the current Chicago goalie problem in practice. What exactly was Mrázek experiencing? “After the first period, it’s 0:0… And insolent thoughts cross my mind: it will be great, another shot and a bonus… And he goes there, scores two or three goals and leaves the goal,” she explains what happened to the head of the czech goalkeeper.
“So she was aware that she had succumbed to those overly positive thoughts. That’s the difference between arrogance and healthy self-confidence,” adds the mental coach, whose clients are not only hockey players, but also people who work in other sports or completely different industries.
In the Příklep program video you will learn which technique is used when working with too much self-confidence and what is the difference between a goalkeeper and an attacker or defender.
