The Department of Social Services, in cooperation with the government agencies of the emirate and in coordination with the Sharjah office, is an age-sensitive city in Sharjah, to find outings to support the elderly residents of the emirate to obtain material benefits and morals to get them out of their loneliness, and among the initiatives of the Sharjah age-sensitive program and in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development In Sharjah and the Sharjah Cooperative Society, the initiative was able to support the projects of the elderly and owners of farms and agricultural products companies to sell their products by coordinating with markets, cooperative societies and department stores by providing shelves that are provided to them free of charge to display and sell their products.
Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Director of Support Services Department at Sharjah Department of Economic Development, the main partner of the Department of Social Services in the implementation of this project, said that this project was started 3 years ago and will continue, God willing, for the coming years, and the number of beneficiaries of the initiative has reached 21 farmers in the year 2022, expressing his admiration for the increase in number since the initiative was launched and the high demand from farmers elderly farmers.
He affirmed the Department’s solidarity with the elderly, which last year obtained a certificate stating that its building is a welcoming and respectful building for the elderly in terms of specific requests.
