London (AP) – Queen guitarist Brian May signs a contract with King Charles III. knight. The 75-year-old will receive an order of knighthood and will go by the style of Sir Brian in future, the palace said. “I see it as a kind of errand to do what you would expect a knight to do: fight for justice, fight for the people who have no voice,” May told Britain’s AP news agency.
It is the first time that King Charles has endorsed the New Year Honours. Traditionally, the royal family honors many people with medals and prizes for their social work at the turn of the year. This year, a total of 1,107 people are in the honors list, including several celebrities such as the European Women’s Champions of England Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead and Ellen White. You will receive medals of merit. National coach Sarina Wiegman receives an honorary award. As a non-British woman, Dutch cannot officially get a title.
Politicians Julian Knight of the Conservative Party and Chris Bryant of the opposition Labor Party, who had hit former Prime Minister Boris Johnson hard, were also knighted. The British ambassadors in Kiev and Moscow, Melinda Simmons and Deborah Bronnert, were made “sir”. The title corresponds to the chivalrous “Lord” for men.
At 18, Dara McAnulty is the youngest honoree. The Northern Irishman receives a British Empire Medal for his commitment to protecting the environment and working with the elderly. The eldest is 100-year-old Peter Davies, who works as a volunteer reader in an elementary school and is also awarded such a medal.
