Shabana Rehman passed away on Thursday after a long illness. She was 46 years old.
Now it becomes clear that the state will cover the cost of his funeral.
– Shabana Rehman has been an outstanding advocate for gender equality throughout her life, says Culture and Gender Equality Minister Anette Trettebergstuen.
Trettebergstuen especially highlights Rehman’s work against negative social control and honor-related violence.
– The way she fought for the freedom of immigrant girls is unique, says the minister.
The time and place of the funeral have not yet been determined.

He has received several awards
Shabana Rehman has received numerous awards for her work as a comedian and social debater.
In 2002 he received the Fritt Ord Award together with Aslam Ahsan for his work on building bridges between cultures.
In 2022 he received Norsk PEN’s Ossietzky Award for his use of freedom of expression in a “creative and sensational way”.
Rehman was born on July 14, 1976 in Karachi, Pakistan. She grew up with her parents and six siblings in Holmlia, Oslo.

In April of this year, Rehman said he had contracted pancreatic cancer and that the disease had spread.
