Young Ukrainians try to avoid military service

Nearly 12,000 men have been caught trying to illegally cross Ukraine’s borders to the west, according to data from the Ukrainian Border Forces.

15 Ukrainians died trying to leave the country, while two are said to have froze to death while crossing the mountains to Romania.

In Russia, too, young people try to avoid military service. Thousands have fled abroad after Moscow called for mobilization in September.
