The Venezuelan opposition dissolved the “interim government” of which Juan Guaidó declared himself president in January 2019 when the opposition and the international community refused to recognize the re-election of Nicolas Maduro in 2018.
Representatives of the previous parliament elected in 2015, controlled by the opposition, voted by 72 votes (29 votes against, 8 abstentions) in favor of the dissolution of the “presidency” and of the interim government, which had no real power but controlled the assets Venezuelans abroad.
This former parliament defends its continuity by considering the legislative elections won by the authority in 2020 fraudulent.
