The day before, Thursday, waves of Russian missiles were fired at cities across the country.
Russia says it has struck energy and military targets to undermine Ukraine’s ability to move troop reserves and repair equipment.
In the capital Kiev, an air warning was sounded after 02:00 local time on Friday and residents were advised to take cover.
The Reuters news agency reported hearing several explosions, as well as the sound of anti-aircraft fire. But the offensive seemed destined to end at dawn.
“Five of the drones were shot down in the air and two more got close,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
“No one was injured in Kiev, but the windows of two buildings were broken,” Klitschko added BBCSaturday (31/12/2022).

Meanwhile, according to the Ukrainian presidential office, one of the drones started a fire in the four-story administration building.
Russia is believed to have been using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in the Ukrainian conflict since mid-September. But Iran denies it.
