The first half ended goalless. Both teams created chances but did not score.
Karim Benzema had a good chance in the 17th minute. However, Benzema, despite already being in front of goal, was unable to take advantage of the ball from Vinicius’ shot which was rejected by the Real Valladolid goalkeeper.
Real Valladolid took turns threatening in the 36th minute. Alvaro Aguado fired a shot towards the top left corner of the goal which forced Thibaut Courtois to make a save.
Courtois makes another important save in the 68th minute. This time he blocked Sergio Leon’s header from Kike’s cross.
Real got an 81st-minute penalty. After seeing the VAR, the referee pointed to the penalty spot because he judged Javi Sanchez a hand ball.
This decision was met with protests from Real Valladolid players. Leon also received a red card because his protests to the referee and fourth official were deemed excessive.
Benzema advanced as executor of the sentence. Benzema calmly deflected his shot into the bottom left corner of the net as Masip deluded himself.
Benzema once again burst into the Valladolid goal in the 89th minute. Camavinga moves from the left and passes to Benzema who is in the center of the penalty area. Benzema then fired in a right-footed shot to beat Masip.
With this victory, Real Madrid temporarily rose to the top Spanish league standings and moved Barcelona with 38 points in 15 games. Barcelona will only play WIB Saturday (31/12/2022) night to face Espanyol.
