Klitschko: The population of Kiev has almost returned to its pre-war state

Kiev report today at the same time ad, that the capital has suffered 52 airstrikes since Russian troops invaded Ukraine more than a decade ago. A total of 600 buildings were destroyed and 120 Kiev residents, including five children, died.

“Let’s count how many phones are used. Before the war there were 3.8 million people, in March – less than a million, in June – two, 2.5 million, now there are 3.6 million people. 300,000 of they are registered refugees from other parts of the country. The city is full,” Klitschko said.

In the interview, he also recalled that shortly after the start of the war on February 24 last year, Russian soldiers approached Kiev relatively quickly from the north.

“We were surprised how quickly the Russians reached the borders of our city. Now we are in the historic center, the Russians were only ten kilometers from here,” the mayor said.

After a failed attempt to capture Kiev, Russian troops withdrew from northern Ukraine in April, concentrating their forces on the advance in the south and east.

Since October this year, Moscow has launched a series of air strikes against Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure across the country. Because of this, Ukrainians face outages and blackouts of electricity, heating and water in winter.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, air raid sirens have been sounded regularly in the territory of the capital.

According to the Kiev administration, a total of 693 hours and 49 minutes have been listened to since February 24, or almost 29 days. “This year, residents of the city have spent nearly an entire calendar month in bomb shelters,” the authorities wrote in a telegram.
