Facts –
Over the past 180 days, China has sequenced and shared 412 cases of Covid with the Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Influenza Data (GISAID) which collated data on viral strains internationally, compared to more than 576,000 shared by the United States. Chinese health authorities shared less than 1% of reported and sequenced Covid cases, while the US shared more than 4% and the UK almost 12%. The World Health Organization has also called on China to share more information about what’s happening on the ground as the virus spreads.
While several countries including Japan, India and the United States have decided to require a negative PCR test for all travelers from China, the European Union considers this measure “unjustified”. Ten days after the lifting of all travel restrictions for the Chinese, the position of the Europeans does not fail to amaze if not reassured by the speech of the Chinese authorities about their control of the situation.
