Dimitri Van den Bergh won by big numbers against Kim Huybrechts in the fourth round of the World Darts Championship on Friday. The 28-year-old Belgian did not allow his nine-year-old compatriot more than him a single set: 4-0.
Huybrechts, who had beaten defending champion Peter Wright in the third round, only got an arrow in the second set to win a set. It didn’t work out, whereupon Van den Bergh took advantage of it and didn’t let Huybrechts into the game for a moment.
In the quarterfinals Van den Bergh will face Jonny Clayton. The Welshman reached the last 16 on Thursday with a 4-3 win over super talent Josh Rock in a thrilling match.
World number one Gerwyn Price was the first to reach the quarterfinals by beating José de Sousa. The price was 4-1 too high for the Portuguese in the fourth round.
In the second match of the fourth round on Friday afternoon, Gabriel Clemens won, who placed 25th at the World Darts Championship. The German was 4-1 too strong for Alan Soutar. In the quarterfinals, Clemens will face Price, seeded first.
Clemens is the first German ever to reach the quarter-finals at the PDC World Championship of Darts. He averages 93.96 for three arrows, compared to Soutar’s 91.92. In the fifth set, the 39-year-old German impressed with a 148 finish.
At Alexandra Palace, Michael Smith capped off the afternoon session with a 4-1 victory over Joe Cullen. In a scorching duel, Smith impressed with an average of 103.25 for three darts. In the quarterfinals, the 32-year-old Englishman will face either Luke Humphries or Stephen Bunting.
Michael van Gerwen and Dirk van Duijvenbode are also hoping to qualify for Friday’s quarterfinals. The two Dutch face off on Friday evening around 21.30.
