Several news watchers reported a large cloud of smoke in Wehr Raum Rheinfelden AG at around 11:15 on Friday afternoon. According to initial investigations, a fire broke out in an industrial building at the Wehra site near the Wehr Center (D).
The fire is said to be so strong that residents in front of the “Southern Courier” described as “hellfire”. Even their windows were already hot. The newspaper also reports that the explosions rocked the area. These were presumably caused by gas canisters. “It is not yet possible to say what caused the fire,” said Matthias Albicker, of the German police press office. Several halls on the site were affected by the fire. Virtually the entire industrial area was destroyed.
In the early afternoon, firefighters tried to locate the source of the fire with a thermal imaging camera mounted on a drone. “Extinguishing work is expected to continue into the evening,” Albicker continued.
Due to the heavy smoke development, residents near the Zelgschule and sports field are therefore advised to keep windows and doors closed. Firefighters are currently putting out the fire. The area was to be delimited over a large area. According to the first measurements, however, no toxic substances have leaked. Nothing is known about the injuries either.
