Agriculture reveals the fact that the zoo will be closed next week for a year

Major General Ehab Saber, head of the Agriculture Ministry-affiliated Veterinary Services Authority, said reports of the zoo closing, starting next week for a year, were groundless, stressing that so far it had not been stipulated. no contracts with private entities to start the development.

Saber added, in exclusive statements to Masrawy today, Friday, that what happened was only issuing a memorandum of approval for development phases, noting that research bids submitted by the private sector in coordination with government agencies.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ragai, director of the zoo, said in a special statement in Masrawy today, Friday, that rumors of the zoo’s closure are affecting the zoo’s performance, stressing that the zoo is fully operational and continues to receive visitors.

The park director added that the initial development plan does not envisage a total closure, and what is being developed will be partially closed, inviting precision.

At its last weekly meeting, the Council of Ministers decided to take the necessary steps to stipulate a contract between the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation, the General Authority for Veterinary Services and the National Authority for Military Productions, in regarding a development project of the Zoo and Orman Gardens in Giza Governorate, as part of the state plan to develop large parks in partnership with the private sector, to serve the citizens and obtain a return that ensures the sustainability of the operation.

This is within the framework of preserving the distinctive historic and artistic character of those gardens.

And there was news of the closure of the Giza Zoo for a year, starting next week.
