While meeting Sivasspor away in the 16th week of the league, as the Giallorossi’s superiority continued with the score at 1-0, the goal scored by Sivasspor for Ulvestad in the 50th minute was declared void after VAR review. While these decisions by referee Erkan Özdamar and VAR referee Özgüç Türkalp were commonplace, there was a backlash from Sivasspor and Fenerbahçe.
Sivasspor shared the words “That’s not a goal either” in the post he made after the goal that the match drew 1-1, while chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz made harsh statements after the fight. As Galatasaray drew 2-2 with Alanyaspor on 23 October 2022, after the match, Giallorossi manager Erden Timur said, “We won’t finish the league.”
On 12 November 2022, Fenerbahçe lost 2-1 against Giresunspor in the match where Joao Pedro received a red card. On the same date, Galatasaray defeated Başakşehir 7-0, while Giallorossi president Dursun Özbek said: “The show will continue after the break.”
