The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, indicated this Friday that the Andalusian health service and the epidemiological centers of the autonomous community are in a situation of “maximum alert” due to the possibility of a “burst of infections” of Covid-19 which he considers “foreseeable” to occur “between this end of the year and the beginning of January”, also derived from the “very high” number of infections that is being recorded in China. The Andalusian president said this at a press conference in Monachil (Granada), as part of the inauguration of the new Alhambra chairlift at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, and to journalists’ questions about the measures announced this Friday by the minister della Salute, Carolina Darias, who indicated that, given the high transmission of the coronavirus in China, in Spain passengers from the Asian country will be required to carry out a negative test for Covid-19 or, failing that, complete vaccination of the lines guide .
Juanma Moreno has indicated that from the Andalusian government they have a “deep concern about the situation in China”, with a “very high number of infected people”, which “gives the feeling of not being able to be controlled”. Furthermore, he highlighted the “fear that this spread of contagion will spread through international airports, in a very particular way through Madrid, throughout Spain”, and highlighted that “scientists tell us that it could also be the possibility” of the emergence of “some new mutation, a new variant” of the coronavirus “that was more resistant to the vaccines we have in Spain”.
“This whole area brings back memories of when the pandemic began in 2019, precisely in China”, added Moreno, who publicly transferred a series of requests to the Spanish government, starting with the exercise of “maximum control, in collaboration with the European authorities, at international airports with origin or destination in China”, as well as “Maximum coordination in prevention in residences, healthcare facilities and vulnerable people throughout the country”. Moreno also asked the Government for “the maximum information on health alerts available to the Ministry”, so that “this information, which is sensitive, is available to all autonomous communities to plan in case there is a peak” of contagion.
The president added it “From the Andalusian government we are on alert now”, and “our health system is on high alert for what could happen, in the event that a wave of infections arrives, which is foreseeable that we could have it together with the flu throughout the end of the year and the beginning of January “. “We hope that the 20 million vaccines that have been given in Andalusia are a sufficiently large shield not to relive the problems of previous years”, said Moreno before reiterating that the Junta observes “with great concern what is happening in China”. with “the fear that there is some kind of new strain that could breach the shields that protect us with the current vaccines we have”.
The Prime Minister concludes by noting however that “The entire Andalusian health service is on high alert”, as well as “the epidemiological centers, in case there is a new peak or some new variant or there is some circumstance that leads us to think that we are going beyond what is normal”.
