Kidnappings, rapes and human trafficking
The police specify that the two British brothers have been under investigation for several months for an alleged kidnapping of two young women in the municipality of Voluntari.
They are also suspected of rape and of forming an organized crime group for human trafficking. In addition to the two brothers, two Romanian citizens will also be part of this group, according to the press release.
According to police, the brothers recruited female victims by pretending to have intentions of marriage or affairs with them, a tactic known as the “loverboy” method.
– Subsequently they were transported and housed in buildings where, with the help of physical violence and mental coercion, they were sexually exploited by the members of the group.
Furthermore, they write that the victims were forced to participate in pornographic material, in order to broadcast it for profit. Six people have been identified so far who have been exploited by the criminal group, police say.
No names were identified in the press release, but Romanian media reported on Thursday evening that the British brothers were identified as Andrew and Tristan Tate.
