I’ll tell you right now, this story is about to turn you on more than a fat fish. Sinzae Reed, 13, was shot multiple times in the back and was killed by Krieg A. Butler Sr., 36, in Columbus, Ohio on October 12 of this year.
According to Columbus Expedition, the Franklin County District Attorney’s office filed murder charges against Butler the same day. A week later, those same prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss the charges, and City Court Judge Mike McAllister granted the dismissal. Butler was immediately released from prison, made his million dollar bail, and has walked God’s green earth a free man ever since.
Why would prosecutors and the judge do such a thing, you ask? Well, they say they did it because Butler claimed “self-defense.” That’s all. All he had to do was say “self defense” and the murder charges *poof* were gone. All we hear is Paul Mooney saying “complexion for protection.”
Columbus Police Homicide Detective. Keith O’Connor said on Thursday that “there was an allegation of self-defense” by Butler and his mother, but declined to comment further, citing an ongoing police investigation.
Sinzae Reed’s family do not believe that he was in possession of a weapon and was not threatening to harm Butler. Additionally, Butler was convicted of domestic violence charges and was not in legitimate possession of a firearm under federal law.
Let Franklin County District Attorney Gary Tyack put it, firing is standard operating procedure, but the case could still go to a grand jury for prosecution.
“Not all cases in city court go to the grand jury,” the statement said. “This particular case is still under review for possible grand jury presentation, and unfortunately I can’t tell you when the case will be presented to the grand jury.”
So, charge someone with manslaughter, dismiss the charges almost immediately, and then say “can we still figure out how to charge them later”? It means nothing. Does anyone have any “explanations” to offer.
