Switzerland has already started the tournament well. Belinda Bencic (WTA 12) wins her match against Julia Putinzewa, world number 51, 7:6 (7:0) and 6:3. After three set balls rejected in the first round, the 25-year-old from Flawil turned up the heat.
Marc Andrea Hüsler (ATP 56) also starts successfully. The 26-year-old prevailed against Timofei Skatow (WTA 142) after a set deficit with 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 3.
Team captain Stan Wawrinka (vs. Bublik) and Jil Teichmann (vs. Kulambayeva) will be on the court on Friday. Mixed doubles is also on the programme. In the new year, Switzerland meets Poland.
