There was no success for the Clermont Foot 63 players this Wednesday 28 December against Lille. The Clermontois lost 2-0.
Lille scored a precious success on Clermont (2-0) on Wednesday 28 December in the match of the 16th day of Ligue 1, a result that allows them to continue to follow the pace of the candidates for Europe. Angel Gomes opened the scoring by converting a penalty awarded for a foul committed on himself by Mateusz Wieteska of Poland in the 68th minute. At the end of the match, Mohamed Bayo, ex Clermont scorer, made it 2-0 (90+4). It is his first goal in Ligue 1 with the northern club where he was sold this summer for 14 million euros.
Yohan Magnin, midfielder and captain of Clermont, is very disappointed: “It’s a shame to do this shooting in vain, because we put so much heart into recovering well after this long break. We also wanted to break up this somewhat difficult dynamic that was ours before editing. Unfortunately, things unfolded on some details, which did not turn out in our direction. But we are clearly disappointed with a match like this, because we didn’t miss the event. On paper, Lille are a stronger team than ours, but if we had managed to put one of our situations to the end, perhaps things would have gone differently. Against this type of team you can’t afford not to be realistic. This penalty changed the game a bit and Lille proved to be more effective. Despite the six-week break, we had a very intense meeting with good quality content. We put a lot of pressure on them in the first half and we were right I think, but you can see the difference between us and an effective team.”
Losc, who thus obtained their second consecutive victory after beating Angers (1-0) just before the break, find themselves 6th in the standings, two points behind Rennes (3rd) and one point behind Monaco (5 °) and Marseille (4th with one game less to play on Thursday) and one better than Lorient (7th) who will also play on Thursday. In the last seven days, Lille have won four times against a defeat in Lyon (1-0) and a draw with Rennes (1-1). For its part, the CF63 remains tenth. But since the success against Auxerre (2-1) on 9 October, the Clermont club has been at a standstill and hasn’t won for six days (three draws, three defeats). Lille generally deserve to win, while the Auvergnets have had no percussion in the attacking arena. The northerners could have already taken the lead in the first period in which they were the most dangerous with chances signed by Kosovar Edon Zeghrova (18, 45) or Alan Virginius (35). Clermont loses the opportunity to equalize right at the end of the match on action by Mohamed Cham on which Tiago Djalo saves him (88 ‘).
