Flu and cold season are hitting – now every blood donation counts

Blood donations are urgently needed every day to heal and save the lives of patients. Due to the short shelf life of blood, it is not possible to build up reserves. Red blood cells (erythrocytes) can be stored for 42 days, platelets even up to four days. Many people who wish to donate blood are currently unable to donate due to a cold, sore throat or even a fever. The reason: the flu and cold wave has arrived. The DRK is therefore calling on all citizens who feel fit and healthy to donate blood now. There is no other way to compensate for the great loss of sick donors.

The first blood donation appointment of the year will take place in Mettmann on Monday, January 9, 2023,
from 15:00 to 19:30 at the Kaplan Flintrop Haus, Lutterbecker Str.30.
