Perm shooter sentenced to life imprisonment

The Perm Regional Court has sentenced Timur Bekmansurov to life imprisonment, who committed an armed attack on Perm State University.

The Perm shooter was charged with six felonies, including the murder of six people, attempted murder of 59 people, attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, and damaging others’ property in a generally dangerous manner.

“Bekmansurov committed three crimes of medium severity and three crimes of special severity. The court comes to the conclusion that, despite his young age, extenuating circumstances and positive characteristics of him, Bekmansurov should be sentenced to life imprisonment with the first three years in prison and the remaining time in a special regime colony. Detention time should be included in the time limit for serving the sentence at the rate of one day of detention for one day of prison service.” said the judge Sergei Korobeinikov.

The court upheld in full the claims for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 24.91 million rubles, received from relatives of those killed and injured in the shooting. The court also ordered Bekmansurov to pay Perm State National Research University (PGNIU) 275.8 million rubles.

EADaily remind: on September 20, 2021, then a first-year student of the Faculty of Law, 18-year-old Bekmansurov, shot a firearm in building No. 8 of Perm State University. Some of the students and teachers locked themselves in the classrooms, others jumped from the windows of the second floor of the building, wanting to escape. During the attack, a college freshman fired 30 shots. Six people were killed, more than 50 people were injured.
