Several experienced problems on the heavy surface on the descent into Bormio, Italy. When Aleksander Aamodt Kilde went out as number 11, three before him had gone out.
Kilde made it to the finish, but, like many others, was occasionally unsteady on the ground. All in all, it was a well-run race for the Norwegian who finished within 68 cents of Vincent Kriechmayr for third place.
This is Kilde’s first career downhill podium in Bormio.
– It was a tough ride, but I did my best. I felt it was doing well along the way and rode fast in the middle section. But then something happened with my skis down, so I lost some grip on the right side and then couldn’t keep my balance, Kilde tells Viaplay and adds:
– It was actually a very good lap, but when there is someone who strikes as well in balance as Vincent and skis so wonderfully, it is deserved. I’ve made a few mistakes along the way that have cost me quite a bit.
Marco Odermatt also had some problems getting into position behind Kilde, 1.46 behind Kriechmayr. Only five riders finished within two seconds of today’s winner.
James Crawford of Canada takes second place.
– It’s difficult in Bormio and you can see it today. It’s a high speed, and those who are poised and can hit the speed do well, says Kilde.
Adrian Smiseth Sejersted had a good start to the race and was on course to fight for 4th place. Unfortunately for the boy from Bærum, he made a big mistake in the center section and finished 32nd.
Henrik Røa finished in 27th place.
